Next I painted the wings white to give my colored paint an even better base, and finally it was time to bring out the yellow paint. I was surprised how easy it was to do so, it added to my belief that these wings were a little overpriced for their quality. The Modpodge trick worked and I had my base.Īlso during this time I realized I didn’t want the fluffy stuff that was on the wings so I ripped that off. I used a paperboard for the base and covered it in yellow felt, then I added a hair clip at the bottom of each ear so I could easily attach it to the wig later.įirst I painted way too many layers of Modpodge in an attempt to make the wings sturdier and ready to be painted with color, because previously it was just made with a type of tulle which seemed easy to rip. I kind of made it up as I went and I think they turned out pretty cute. Once I had the shirt, pants, socks, and shoes (the last two I already had, so score!) it was time to create the staple Fluttershy pieces - her ears and wings. So it was decided that I was creating a Fluttershy-inspired costume. I then did a little bit of shopping (thrifting and clearance deals) and only found pieces that went with Fluttershy’s aesthetic. I settled on my top two choices, which were Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy from My Little Pony Equestria Girls, because I had a galaxy-themed wig and a pink wig. I thought of what wigs I already owned and then did some research to figure out what costumes I could create using them. ![]() I think my costume this year was probably one of the quickest I’ve put together, even though it took me close to a week to make. Google has already rolled out Passkey support in Android and Chrome. Websites and services need to support the FIDO Alliance’s protocols, which, at the moment, most don’t. Passkeys have been available since iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, but there are some limitations. Apple will store them in iCloud’s Keychain so they’re synced across devices, and they work in Apple’s Safari web browser. Passkeys are generated cryptographic keys managed by your device. The latest effort to eliminate the password comes from the FIDO Alliance, an industry group aimed at standardizing authentication methods online.Īpple has implemented the FIDO protocols in what the company calls passkeys. Passwords are a pain-you’ll get no argument here-but we don’t see them going away in the foreseeable future. Passkeys, FIDO, and the “Death of the Password”Ī concerted effort to get rid of passwords began roughly two days after the password was invented. Read our guide to VPN providers for more ideas on how you can upgrade your security, as well as our guide to backing up your data to make sure you don’t lose anything if the unexpected happens. We need to offload that work to password managers, which offer secure vaults that can stand in for our memory.Ī password manager offers convenience and, more importantly, helps you create better passwords, which makes your online existence less vulnerable to password-based attacks. That might work for Memory Grand Master Ed Cooke, but most of us are not capable of such fantastic feats. (Make sure they are long, strong, and secure!) Just kidding. For nearly a decade, that’s been “123456” and “password”-the two most commonly used passwords on the web. We know they’re good for us, but most of us are happier snacking on the password equivalent of junk food. Password managers are the vegetables of the internet. ![]() There is a negligible amount of friction between the glider and the air track. The glider is attached by a spring to a vertical support. The diagram shows an air track and a glider. We will begin our discussion of this question by considering the system in the diagram below. So what is the restoring force for a mass on a spring? It is this restoring force which is responsible for the vibration. The restoring force causes the vibrating object to slow down as it moves away from the equilibrium position and to speed up as it approaches the equilibrium position. A final comment regarding this equation is that it works for a spring which is stretched vertically and for a spring is stretched horizontally (such as the one to be discussed below).Įarlier in this lesson we learned that an object that is vibrating is acted upon by a restoring force. The x and the F are in opposite directions. The spring responds to this stretching by exerting an upward force. For instance, when the spring was stretched below its relaxed position, x is downward. The negative sign in the above equation is an indication that the direction that the spring stretches is opposite the direction of the force which the spring exerts. The units on the spring constant are Newton/meter (N/m). This is to say that it would take a relatively large amount of force to cause a little displacement. A stiff spring would have a high spring constant. The spring constant is a positive constant whose value is dependent upon the spring which is being studied. Where Fspring is the force exerted upon the spring, x is the amount that the spring stretches relative to its relaxed position, and k is the proportionality constant, often referred to as the spring constant. If we had completed this study about 350 years ago (and if we knew some Latin), we would be famous! Today this quantitative relationship between force and stretch is referred to as Hooke's law and is often reported in textbooks as Translated from Latin, this means "As the extension, so the force." In other words, the amount that the spring extends is proportional to the amount of force with which it pulls. This relationship between the force applied to a spring and the amount of stretch was first discovered in 1678 by English scientist Robert Hooke. This strong fit lends credibility to the results of the experiment. ![]() ![]() The fact that the regression constant is very close to 1.000 indicates that there is a strong fit between the equation and the data points. The plot is shown below.Ī linear regression analysis yields the following statistics: The data table below shows some representative data for such an experiment.īy plotting the force-stretch data and performing a linear regression analysis, the quantitative relationship or equation can be determined. A regression analysis of the force-stretch data could be performed in order to determine the quantitative relationship between the force and the amount of stretch. The force which is applied in each instance would be the weight of the object. For each object which is added, the amount of stretch could be measured. To determine this quantitative relationship between the amount of force and the amount of stretch, objects of known mass could be attached to the spring. Exactly what is the quantitative relationship between the amount of pulling force and the amount of stretch? And if you were to pull with a much greater force, the spring would stretch a much greater extent. If you were to pull with just a little force, the spring would stretch just a little bit. If you were to hold the bottom of the spring and pull downward, the spring would stretch. The spring hangs in a relaxed, unstretched position. Consider the system shown at the right with a spring attached to a support. We will begin our discussion with an investigation of the forces exerted by a spring on a hanging mass. Such quantities will include forces, position, velocity and energy - both kinetic and potential energy. Now we will investigate the motion of a mass on a spring in even greater detail as we focus on how a variety of quantities change over the course of time. The mass on a spring motion was discussed in more detail as we sought to understand the mathematical properties of objects that are in periodic motion. In a previous part of this lesson, the motion of a mass attached to a spring was described as an example of a vibrating system. So, anchor tags will look a bit like this: 1Īttributes are properties used to provide additional information about an element. The content that falls between the opening and closing tags is the content of that element. It consists of a less-than sign followed by a forward slash and the element’s name, and then ends with a greater-than sign for example. Ī closing tag marks the end of an element. It consists of a less-than sign followed by an element’s name, and then ends with a greater-than sign for example. The use of less-than and greater-than angle brackets surrounding an element creates what is known as a tag. Over time you will become more and more familiar with all of them, but the three common HTML terms you should begin with are elements, tags, and attributes. While getting started with HTML, you will likely encounter new-and often strange- terms. With this understanding of the difference between HTML and CSS, let’s dive into HTML in more detail. As a rule, HTML will always represent content, and CSS will always represent the appearance of that content. CSS should not be written inside of an HTML document and vice versa. The two languages-HTML and CSS-are independent of one another and should remain that way. ![]() CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, is a presentation language created to style the appearance of content-using, for example, fonts or colors. HTML, HyperText Markup Language, gives content structure and meaning by defining that content as, for example, headings, paragraphs, or images. Within this book I’m going to show you how to build your own websites using the two most dominant computer languages-HTML and CSS.īefore we begin our journey to learn how to build websites with HTML and CSS, it is important to understand the differences between the two languages, the syntax of each language, and some common terminology. And chances are someone somewhere has built a website with your exact search in mind. Any bit of imaginable information rests at your fingertips. Today you can open a web browser, jump over to your search engine of choice, and search away.
