Moca 2.5 profile d10/31/2023 This description makes it seem as though you’ve removed the coax connection from the gateway (combo modem/router). And finally 75 ohm terminators for any unused splitter ports and for the wall jacks that are not connected to anything. The connections should be Outside cable -> MoCA filter -> Splitter input -> Splitter outputs -> to the coax cables you want to use or to all of them. And if you are going to do things right, you should get some 75 ohm terminators to put on any unused splitter ports and any wall ports that don't have anything connected to them. My first thought would be to get a single splitter that can support/connect all the coax cables that you have. If one of the "splitters" is actually an amplifier or an amplified splitter then that makes things more difficult but still not impossible, it's just that you might need splitters that can pass power and your configuration might need special consideration to keep the cable working and allow the MoCA to work. You also should put a MoCA filter on the cable that come in from outside, to keep you from sending your MoCA signal out to the neighborhood and also to keep stray MoCA signals from entering you home. If I had to take a guess, one of the splitters should be feeding the other one, which then should mean that all the cables that are connected to both splitters are connected together, and should work with MoCA as long as the far end is actually going to one of these splitters. The thing to do would be to figure out which cable in the basement goes where, and then to use the existing splitters if the will pass the MoCA signal or to get one that does. So any splitter needs to be able to pass that signal, which is higher than regular TV and Cable signals. It would have been helpful to either have a photo of the splitters or if you made a diagram of how they are connected.įor MoCA to work, you need to have a virtual cable that goes between the adapters, splitters are allowed, they just need to be splitters that will pass the MoCA signal. How should I proceed from here? Could I get one of the adapters in before the splitters in the basement? Am I going to need to buy a third adapter? Is any of this at all even feasible! I checked by the fusebox in our basement and of course I immediately notice there are 2 coaxial splitters. After a little extra research I've read that splitters on the coaxial cables by the fuse box can interfere with the process. I tested both adapters by connecting coax between the two with success as both coax lights went green. Plugged in the MoCa adapter power to outletīefore even getting to the second adapter I noticed that the coax light was not green. I set up my MoCa adapters byĬonnecting the coaxial from the wall on the first floor to the adapterĬonnecting Ethernet from the adapter to the modem/router combo I'm now in a position where I need a direct Ethernet connection on the 2nd floor and I was hoping the MoCa adapters would be a quick solution. My combined router/modem is on the first floor by my office and has provided reasonable WiFi to the 2nd floor and the basement. I have a townhouse with 3 floors (1st, 2nd, basement) and coaxial running through the walls to different rooms. Hi everyone, it seems like I may have jumped the gun on purchasing a pair of Actiontec MoCa 2.5 adapters for my house. u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
